Kissimmee 2016 was, by a margin of 17%, Mecum’s highest grossing Kissimmee sale. Car count remained essentially unchanged but the caliber of the cars on offer, and sold, is apparent from the record average transaction (up 19.6% from last year) and sale total even though the median transaction was just $480 (1.9%) more than last year.
This will be a 3-day event, well catered to the very wealthy (I believe), plus about 80 supercars and 5,000 guest….
Salon Prive’s three-day format returns in 2016, commencing with the Chubb Insurance Concours d’Elegance Judging Day on Thursday 1st September. The celebrations continue with the Boodles Ladies’ Day on Friday 2nd September along with the Salon Prive Sale, before the Salon Prive Supercar Show finale on Saturday 3rd September.

A 1952 Ferrari 225E, chassis 0178, was recently restored after two years of work by the Ferrari Classiche department in Maranello, Italy. The project was a great challenge for Classiche as the car, which belongs to an Argentinean collector, arrived at the Ferrari factory in a terrible state of repair, having been partially destroyed in a fire.
Buying vintage cars and restoring them is becoming very popular, so much so that manufactures are jumping on the bandwagon…
Lamborghini is fitting in at the annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, trotting out a fully restored 1971 Miura SV. This is not just any Miura, though. It’s been the subject of a complete restoration courtesy of Sant’Agata’s young restoration arm, PoloStorico.

The Bonhams Amelia Island 2016 Auction will be held Thursday, March 10 at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club on Amelia Island, Florida. More than 80 automobiles will be offered at Bonhams’ 2nd annual sale held during the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Week, in addition to selected automobilia.

The Cavallino Classic Sports Sunday 2016 was held January 25th at Mar-a-Lago, the Marjorie Merriweather Post mansion in Palm Beach, Florida. The last event of the larger Palm Beach Cavallino Classic, the one-day event featured American, Italian, French, British and German classics on the show field at Mar-a-Lago.
It seems, Southern California and Arizona are among the best places for auto auctions…..
Bonhams and Butterfields, Westin Kierland, Scottsdale, Arizona, January 28, 2016
Bonhams kicked off the concentration of Arizona Auction Week events with its Thursday mid-day sale at the Westin Kierland. From here on it was one auction after another, often several at a time, across the Valley of the Sun.
Most of you were not even around in 1954, this was a very well liked sport car in those days….
Triumph’s “Vanguard” 2.0 liter. This engine/chassis combination was a KILLER when it came out and really set a new standard for affordable sports cars in terms of performance. For comparison the 1953 MG TD, the original inexpensive English roadster, was using a 1250cc engine putting 55 BHP with a 0-60 of 20(!) seconds. The TR-2 came out with a 2.0 liter with 90 BHP and producing a 0-60 of 12 seconds. The word “revelation” applies.
Classic car and sports car auctions are abundant in the Southwest, and Arizona has some real good ones….
The Arizona Concours d’Elegance 2016 was held Sunday, January 24th at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix. Under clear blue skies, the 3rd annual event once again kicked-off the famed Arizona Auction Week in the Scottsdale and Phoenix area.
